experience before becoming a McDonald’s franchisee, but it helps,” Anne exclaims. “McDonald’s will look for someone with a good track record in business but research is also key. I did my research before joining McDonald’s and, for me, there was no other business that compared. It’s a global brand and, after doing my due diligence, I felt that the training was excellent, I felt supported from the start and continue to feel so. McDonald’s gave me the opportunity to develop a successful business the way I wanted. I wanted to make it big, so I did!” It’s not suited to everyone. Potential franchisees

need to have a general business background. But, most of all, Anne believes you need to be able to demonstrate success. Anne states that the support from the McDonald’s head office is fantastic. And even now, seven years later, she has a franchise consultant she can call on at any time. “He’s my go-to, when I need a little support,” she says. “My consultant also audits my


business to make sure I’m running it to the best standards. What’s more, he provides me with all the national marketing material I need – I do the local marketing myself – and provides training courses for my employees.” Supporting your local community is also a big must as a McDonald’s franchisee, and Anne is no exception. “I do a lot for my local community. It’s really important to get on with the locals, as well as be seen as a friendly business owner. Often, a lot of people look at the golden arches and think of a giant and soulless corporation, so familiarising myself with the community helps change that. “It’s really lovely to work with the community and let them see a face to the name. “As a franchisee I arrange events in the local community, as well as sponsor local grassroots
