CHAPTER 10 The Impact of Globalisation and Technology
1.10 Discuss and evaluate how globalisation and developments in technology impact on consumer choice and behaviour
Chapter Summary Globalisation
The process by which the world’s economies, markets and consumers have become increasingly connected.
What Is Driving Globalisation
Technology – Easier to use websites and apps to sell to anyone in the world. Transport – Moving goods internationally is now quicker and cheaper. Manufacturing – Easier to outsource production to low cost countries.
Consumer demand – People want more items and lower prices so businesses are sourcing cheaper stock and raw materials globally to meet this.
E-commerce Buying and selling goods and services online using sites like Shopify.
Online shopping from anywhere so consumers are not limited to just buying in local shops.
How Technology Has Changed Consumer Behaviour
Brands use social media to advertise directly increasing impulse buying.
Faster deliveries allow for next-day options resulting in increased consumer spending online as consumers get goods faster. Contactless payment takes seconds, making unplanned purchases easier.
Digital payment Paying for goods using technology such as a phone, online or card rather than cash.
Contactless payment
