“Then, when COVID-19 hit in 2020, I suddenly had seas of time, and I shifted my focus more and more towards the HI-LO project. I started to release tracks on deadmau5’s label Mau5trap and the Techno label Octopus Records. They were already charting nicely on the Beatport Techno charts, especially ‘Kronos.’ From there, I got in touch with many Techno artists and started collaborating with some of my like Reinier

Zonneveld,

favourite producers, T78,

Will Clarke, Eli Brown, and Layton Giordani.”

“I released some collabs on Reinier’s label Filth On Acid while also working on a solo EP for Adam Beyer’s label Drumcode. That hot streak of releases on Filth On Acid and Drumcode catapulted things for HI-LO into the Techno world. Coming out of the pandemic, it was overwhelming to see how many Techno DJs supported the tracks, from old-school legends/founders of the genre to the newer stars!”

THE BIRTH OF AN IMPRINT

With the launch of HILOMATIK in January 2023, Oliver Heldens unveiled a new chapter in the HI-LO story. A label that serves as a platform for both established talents and promising newcomers, further

expanding the musical manifesto that HI-LO embodies.

“From the fast rise of HI-LO in the Techno world, I started to receive quite a few Techno demos for my Heldeep label. In 2020, for example, Heldeep released ‘DT64’ by Kai Tracid & MOGUAI even became the best-selling track of the year in the genre! So, it made much sense to start my own Techno-focused label for HI-LO.”

“I’m pretty picky with what I play in my sets and what I release on the label. Sometimes, I receive a musically strong track; the idea of it is great, but the execution of it in terms of sound and production is mediocre. Other times the production is massive, but musically it’s not so exciting or promising. For me, it needs to have both to be considered for the label. But in the end, that’s very subjective, of course.”
