This year marked the 10th anniversary of the design competition Hattember, which has grown into a global celebration of millinery talent while supporting community initiatives. For the 2025 edition, milliners were challenged to create original works under the themes Celestial Couture, Cowgirl Chic, and Resort Glam, with participants provided with a curated bag of materials from

Judging the almost 60 entrants, including from Sweden, the UK, and every state of Australia, were Sydney- based milliner Neil Grigg, head milliner at Opera Australia Rebecca Read, and Sophie Allport of Allport Millinery. The judges praised the exceptionally high standard of entries, with criteria covering design, craftsmanship, fit, wearability,

originality, and creative use of materials. The prizewinners were announced on 5th September at a gala celebration hosted by the Embellish Atelier hat store. Winning creations were displayed on rotation in the store’s front window to public admiration.
