Cut the ends that go inwards shorter and tape them together. Next, smooth out the wire to get a straight shape.

Tape the wire at the edges to the card shape first, then tape it all the way round.

Let the layers of masking tape overlap halfway and make sure the wire sits on top of the cardboard, rather than inside it.

Add a second wire on the outside of the shape, just under the first wire.

Bend it around the block as you go (not beforehand) to make sure it fits snugly.

Again, attach the wire with short pieces of masking tape. You can neaten the edge with strips of tape laid in the opposite direction.

From this point on, cut all cards slightly shorter at the top so they sit under the outside wire.

Add the pieces for the next layers one at a time, lining them up with the bottom of the shape.

Attach the pieces on the third, fourth and fifth layer as described in Step 19 to Step 29.

Place the shape back on the block once you’ve added all extra layers. Shape the wire before adding extra strips of masking tape over the wire and edges.

You’ll get a better shaped crown if you don’t make the top completely square, but leave it slightly bent instead.

Add strips of masking tape diagonally over the sides of the card block, overlapping halfway. This will strengthen the block.
