Goodwood Revival 2025

Every year in the first half of September the area around Chichester in England is flooded with vintage cars and period- dressed enthusiasts, all heading in one direction: the Goodwood Motor Circuit. At this historic racing track, located on the Goodwood estate in West Sussex, southern England, lovers of 1940s, ’50s and ’60s cars, aviation and fashion come together at the three-day Goodwood Revival festival to celebrate the heyday of British motor racing. Central to the event is its track-opening parade, which each year celebrates a motoring icon. This year it was the turn of the Volkswagen Type 2, marking the 75th anniversary of the much-loved camper van.

As in 2024, the weather was changeable, with heavy showers on each of the three race days. Visitors, however, took the rain in their stride. Stylish umbrellas became part of the look, and outfits remained as carefully curated as ever, ranging from 1940s elegance to the bold prints of the 1970s. One of the most-loved

side events, the Best Dressed competition, takes place each afternoon at the Revival Style Village. Visitors cannot sign up for this but must be invited to take part. American bandleader and style icon Dandy Wellington returned as master of ceremonies, while the judging panel included international names such as Dita Von Teese and Paula Sutton.

12–14 September 2025 by Elly Stemerdink Among those who stood out

were Australian milliner Catherine Ellen and her husband Steve, a keen motorsport enthusiast. The couple attended all three racing days in vibrant, coordinated outfits inspired by the 1960s and 1970s. Their flair for dressing caught the attention of the Revival’s style scouts, who invited them to compete on both Friday and Sunday. Elsewhere, the Hurricane Lawn

offered visitors the chance to engage with traditional skills and engineering heritage. Live car and bicycle restorations sat alongside craft demonstrations and hands-on workshops, including embroidery, recycling leather scraps and upcycling clothing.
