IT was a night to remember for Steve Hitchon a t the Great Harwood Bowling League presentation night. He scooped all three indi

vidual honours at the end-of- season showpiece at Rishton Conservative Club on Friday. And it capped a memorable

night for the Clitheroe Crick et A captain, who claimed the P re s ident’s Silver Salver, Harold Blackburn Trophy and Ted Tomlinson Trophy. Globe Heys took the First

Division title, while team member Mick Opie scooped the divisional Donald Cow- perthwaite Merit Trophy. The other three respective

prizes went to Rushton Street B’s Michael Beardmore, Tony Andrews of Sydney Street and Green Park’s Gary Emmison. Opie also claimed the

Arthur Ormerod Rose Bowl alongside p a r tn e r Glynn Dodd, while Alan Clarke and Vinnie O’Donnell of Roe Lee Park took the Lawrenson Cup Doubles. Rushton Street A took the

Second Division title, while the Third and Fourth Divi sion equivalents went to Sab- den Red and Green Park. Free Gardeners A picked

up the Leonard Whittaker Cup.

Clinical finishing sees champs win

Hurst Green................3 Worsthorne................. 0 A CLINICAL display of fin ishing from Hurst Green was the difference as the home side finished the game as a contest before half-time The match started off a t a

frenetic pace on a sodden pitch, and this resulted in sev eral passes going astray as both teams tried to grab a stranglehold. The visitors settled first and

knocked the ball around with confidence, as Green seemed happy to sit back and wait for their chance. Green had a scare early on

as a long searching ball caught out Walker and Coupe, only for keeper Young to make a good save at the Worsthome forward’s feet. Green then should have

gone one up as an excellent move down the left flank found Danny Walker in space in the penalty area, only for the forward to lose his footing Walker looked lively up

front, and he earned Green’s first goal. With the ball at his feet in

the box, Green’s leading scorer turned sharply, bamboozling the centre back, who slipped and brought him down. The referee instantly point

ed to the spot, and Seedall confidently smashed the penalty home. Worsthome, clearly rattled

by the penalty, seemed to lose their discipline for a while, and Green put the visitors under pressure for prolonged periods,

Bolton and Tipton making excellent progress down the left flank. The second goal came on 20

minutes as an inswinging Bolton comer was powerfully met by Coupe for his first of the season. Two soon became three, as

another slick Hurst Green move found Walker in space, and he unselfishly fed Seedall on the right side of the area, who expertly finished for his second of the game. In a largely-forgettable sec

ond half, Green struggled to find their slick passing game and found themselves battling to keep a clean sheet. The visitors would have had

a consolation goal but for Young making three fantastic saves. Firstly, he tipped over a

speculative shot from 20 yards as the ball looked to be dip ping under the bar, but he saved his best saves for min utes later. He managed to make a fin

gertip save around the post from another shot which looked to be heading into the corner, and then from the resulting corner he made a brilliant point-blank stop with his legs as a visiting forward turned and swivelled in the six-yard box. This was a sixth win on the

trot for Hurst Green, who seem to be gathering momen tum towards a defence of their title. They travel to Borrow- dale United on Saturday (kick-off 2 p.m.).
