helm, the Clitheroe Town branch hopes to dispel the myth that politics is something for old fuddy-duddies in smoke-filled rooms. At 27, chairman Mr David Boden,

plans to make the new branch a vibrant and dynamic organisation.

PEEK^BOC t/4 ffisbfirtf0toa\ “I hope to introduce a new brand of

politics to the town, with all kinds of enjoyable and exciting social events for members. Essentially it will be a social club with a political theme,” said Mr Boden. A successful launch night was held

at Clitheroe Conservative Club, with a very encouraging response to the appeal for members. Supper was also enjoyed. One of the first social events was a

trip to Cadbury World last Saturday, with a murder mystery night planned for the New Year. Members have also decided to hold an “Any Questions” event in January, hopefully with Con servative Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans. Anyone interested in joining the

house kitchen in the heart of Gisburn. Its emphasis on high-quality whole

some food at value-for-money prices soon earned the company a good repu tation and it grew to becomee one of the largest independent catering com panies in the'North-West. ; Unfortunately,1 most of the work

came in the busy summer months, so Helen was keen to find a way of keep ing the business going through the winter too. Its first sticky toffee puddings were

made for a stall at a charity coffee morning five years ago and were an instant: hit. Helen was inundated with requests

for more puddings and details of where they could be purchased. As demand for Farmhouse Fare

puddings snowballed, the way to keep the business “ticking over” in winter soon became the prime concern all year round and the outside catering

operation had to.be sold - to make room for puddingl All the company’s puddings are still

hand-made with the same levels of pride and attention to detail, and are now available in several national supermarket chains. Judges at the Dried Fruit Awards all agreed that the Farmhouse Fare pud-

. dings had the winning “wow” factor. Chairman of the judging panel, Wil- fried Tops, said: “They were totally

delicious,' a real treat!” This was the sixth year of the com

petition, run by the National Dried Fruit Trade Association, to encourage innovation in the use of dried fruit. Farmhouse Fare’s luxury chocolate

pudding beat Marks and Spencer almond, apricot and mango, and pecan, apricot and peach bars, and Marks and Spencer Champagne pud ding to win the top prize in the luxury product category.
