"FREAKY FRIDAY" (PG) Grand Cinema, from tomorrow
IF the name of this film sounds vaguely familiar, you’re proba bly at the wrong end of the generation gap that it focuses on.
Freaky Friday 2003 is a
remake of the 1976 original starring Jodie Foster. Even the “original” is based
on a much older storyline, the question of what would hap pen if a parent and child were to swap places and live each other’s lives. So is it worth re-inventing
the wheel again for this latest version of the body-swap com edy? Disney certainly thought so and it was probably right, as this is an enjoyable, slightly more hard-edged and certainly “of our times” version. Directed by Mark Walters,
it touches on issues such as school bullying and young love among the more light-hearted humour. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan star as the mother and daughter who find themselves living each other’s lives.
