FESTIVE SKIN TABOOS
Christmas is a time of temptation, and it’s easy to allow yourself a “treat or two” at this time of year. So, what are the festive watch outs when it comes to skin?
Alcohol is one of the fastest ways to dehydrate the skin. It holds almost no nutritional value and will drain the skin of its essential oils and nutrients. Depriving the skin of moisture will see it appear dull, lacklustre, sensitive and even aged.
Combine this with excessive sweet, fatty foods and your skin could be quickly affected. Party food can also be processed and salty, this dehydrates skin and causes the body to hold onto water which can give the face a bloated appearance often with redness and puffiness around the eyes.
Late nights are another skin taboo. Sleep allows the body to efficiently repair itself and aids in skin renewal via the growth hormone which works to push new cells up to the epidermis and shed the old ones. And, let’s not mention the ultimate skin sin…sleeping in your make up! If you wear make-up to bed, the
old cells are unable to shed and the skin will lack luminosity giving skin an aged appearance.
SAVE YOUR SKIN
But, there’s some good news! There are ways you can enjoy yourself and save your skin over Christmas, without being a party pooper!
HYDRATE HYDRATE It sounds obvious, but hydrate your skin and body by drinking 6-8 glasses of water or try warm water with a little fresh lemon juice added. Other healthy options include coconut water, herbal teas and green tea rich in skin protective antioxidants. It's also an act of self-care that will make your hangover a little more bearable!
EAT YOUR SKIN HEALTHIER
