BEDROOM DESIGN FOR THE PERF ECT WINT ER RE TREAT
Cold and dark outside, warm and cosy inside. There’s never been a better time than winter to step away from it all and retreat to a restful, cocoon-like bedroom for quality relaxation in beautiful surroundings. Gaby Citraro Hughes, Head of Residential Design at Blocc Interiors is no stranger to creating intimate spaces for her clients and winter-cosy bedrooms are top of her list at this time of year.
“Your bedroom should be a welcoming sanctuary in which to unwind as the temperatures tumble outside. It should offer a soothing respite from the noise and activity of modern life. A place to escape, relax and, most importantly, rest,” she says. “Not surprisingly, there are lots of details to consider to achieve this balance when it comes to designing the perfect bedroom.”
BLOCC INTERIORS TOP TIPS FOR CREATING A WINTER-COSY BEDROOM Consider the Bed as Your Focal Point - Likely to be the largest piece in the room, your bed is the most im- portant feature, not only practically to give you the best night’s sleep possible, but also visually. A bed can add interest, a sense of luxury or create the feeling of a calming relaxation area in the room.
ADD DRAMA WITH AN ACCENT WALL Draw the eye to the bed with an accent wall behind it. Patterned wallpapers can add an element of fun, surprise or drama. A contrasting colour can add mood and bring together a colour scheme. You can also consider art which often works well in the right proportions and colours.
CHOOSE A STATEMENT HEADBOARD A new headboard can create a wow factor in your bedroom. Oversized ones with extra height or extending beyond the width of the divan bed can look impressive. Consider shape, style and size using interesting fabrics and natural materials.
101
BALANCE YOUR BEDSIDES With an increasing preference for wider beds, bedside tables should be wide enough to complement the group and balance the symmetry of the bed area.
GO LARGE ON LAMPS The secret for the perfect table lamps is ‘go large’ for impact. Make sure the look and finish complements your bedsides, and blends with the style of the room, whilst having fun with colour and shape.
BEAUTIFUL BEDLINEN White bedlinen is an all-time classic. Team this up with layers of sumptuous throws and bedcovers in accent colours coordinating with your scheme for impact and the ultimate boutique hotel style luxury.
CURATED ACCESSORIES Create your own personal touches with small accessories like room diffusers, candles or bottled perfumes. Careful placing will add interest but be mindful not to clutter surfaces.
COSY CUSHIONS The all-important final touch. Include an accent colour or an attractive pattern. Make the extra effort to arrange them every morning to make your bedroom a place to look forward to retreating to each night.
