THE WEDDING OF DEREK SIMMONDS AND DANIEL WILLIAMS
The usual wedding rule book was torn up for the civil wedding ceremony of Derek John Simmonds and Daniel James Williams, which took place in August in the Rose Garden at Birtsmorton Court, Worcestershire.
Derek (known as Rick) and Daniel met in 2012 . Derek, a solicitor, has lived and worked in Herefordshire and Worcestershire for over 30 years but the couple now split their time between Worcester and Daniel's hometown Southampton.
The celebration was prompted after Derek had a major health scare in Tel Aviv; and only due to the excellence of his Israeli medical team made it home.
The careful planning of the wedding remained a very tightly guarded secret, to the point where no-one knew all that would happen. With Covid, the ceremony was postponed four times so the day could happen as planned.
Guests were greeted by ‘Mamma’, a drag act, setting the hallmark of the day - fun and informality. They were then treated to the boys' humour and their love for music with singers, a Rat Pack band, jugglers, pianist, a fire eater, singalongs and music videos.
The highlight was a surprise 70-strong choir performing an amazing Greatest Showman set. Overseas guests from eight different countries, including Derek’s Israeli doctor, were sadly unable to travel for the event.
Instead of gifts, guests were asked to make donations to St Richards Hospice and Cancer Research and have already exceeded £5,000. Photos by Cherished Moments Photography
