This year’s recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy for 2024 is Alasdair MacIntyre, a recognition richly deserved for his visionary approach and steadfast commitment to advancing pharmacy services. As we reflect on his remarkable journey, it is evident that Alasdair epitomises the essence of a true community pharmacist.


Alasdair embarked on his pharmacy career as a graduate of Robert Gordon University in the late 1980s. His foundational years were spent in community pharmacy, where he diligently honed his skills at Boots the Chemist and various independent pharmacies. For Alasdair, community pharmacy was not just a career path – it was an opportunity to positively impact lives through pharmaceutical care.

Early in his career, Alasdair seized the opportunity to invest his time, money, and energy into owning his own pharmacy business - an endeavour that would become a cornerstone of his professional journey. Under his leadership, the pharmacy earned a reputation for delivering exemplary pharmaceutical care to patients. Renowned within his community for his dedication and clinical acumen, Alasdair has cultivated a team that


shares his unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. Patients, colleagues, and peers alike hold Alasdair in high esteem for his exceptional contributions to community health and wellbeing.


Alasdair has consistently pushed the boundaries of his profession by becoming one of the first prescribers in Scotland in 2005, (both supplementary and independent)
