PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR
STEWART MCNAIR NHS LOTHIAN
The 'Pharmacist of the Year' award at the Scottish Pharmacist Awards this year was rightfully bestowed upon Stewart McNair, a member of the NHS Lothian - West Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy team, based at Kingsgate Medical Practice in Bathgate. Stewart's remarkable contributions to healthcare, particularly his innovation and dedication to patient-centred care, have made him an example of excellence in the pharmacy profession.
Stewart’s innovative Frailty Clinic, initiated to serve patients experiencing physiological decline, is a ground-breaking service in NHS Lothian. Recognising that patients with moderate to severe frailty often presented in crisis, Stewart proactively identified a need for a dedicated clinic within the GP practice. By offering holistic reviews both in the clinic and through home

visits, he ensured equitable access for less mobile patients.
The clinic's impact has been significant, as it anticipates and helps manage risks like falls and acute kidney injury, reducing the harmful impact on patients. Stewart conducts comprehensive physical observations, including blood pressure, weight, heart rate, and respiratory rate.
He collaborates with secondary care to ensure a smooth transfer of care, providing a positive rehabilitation experience.
