SHEPWAY TAXI DRIVERS BOOST THEIR KNOWLEDGE

Taxi drivers discover more about Shepway

Shepway taxi drivers have been updating their knowledge so that they can be even better ambassadors for the area.

The cabbies attended a special training day organised by Visit Kent at the Hythe Imperial Hotel.

The day of workshops included talks by Thomas Marsh, a Bea- con Co-ordinator for the Kent Sport, Leisure and Olympics team;

Jeremy Whittaker, Regeneration and Eco- nomic Development Manager at Shepway Council; Chris Kirkham, Discover Folkestone Manager; and Amanda Oates, Arts Develop- ment Officer at Shepway Council. The event was organ- ised by Kerstin Beeching, training manager at Visit Kent. Miss Beeching said: “Taxi drivers are often the first people visitors

to Shepway meet. “They are regularly asked questions about what is happen- ing in the area and what are the best places to visit. They are our frontline ambassadors. “Taxi drivers are busy people and so we decided to hold a day- long training event with as much useful infor- mation as possible. We were determined to include not only what visitors can see and do in Shepway today but also all the plans to regenerate the area and ensure our legacy from the 2012 London Games.” For further information about Visit Kent train- ing courses go to www.visitkentbusi- ness.co.uk

WEYLINE TAXIS SPONSORS WEYMOUTH WILDCATS

Weymouth has recent- ly taken to the pitch at the Wessex Stadium sporting a new kit after agreeing an 18- month sponsorship deal with Weyline. The taxi firm, who stepped in to save the Weymouth Wildcats speedway team, will see the company’s logo emblazoned on the front of the Terras’ shirts until the end of next season.

It is the first time this season that the Terras will have had shirt sponsors, making a change to their “invest in us” slogan from recent months.

“It’s great news that a local firm have got behind the football club,” Weymouth chair- man George Rolls told the Dorset Echo. “I’d

like to thank Ian Fergu- son of Weyline, he has become an integral part of the football club.” “Weymouth would be a poorer place without its speedway and the football club,” said Ian Ferguson, co-owner and managing director of Weyline.
