09:30 – 10:10: Welcome and introduction by Mike Schwarz, IIMS CEO with an update on the Institute’s activities and new initiatives.
10:10 – 11:00: Jamie & Liam, Ocean Safety, will give a brief overview of things surveyors should be expected to look for when inspecting a vessel. They will bring an Ocean ISO liferaft (packed and armed) ready to fire. Some of the features of the rafts will be explained along with changes to the latest ISO 9650 standard and the differences between the ISO and SOLAS standards.
11:00 – 11:15: Coffee Break. There’s a new
face at IIMS HQ Alex Ockenden joined IIMS in February 2025 in the position of Web & Social Media Administrator. In her new role, Alex will be focused on curating and managing content across all social media platforms as well as helping to develop the company’s web presence. Additionally, Alex will take responsibility for monitoring and mediating the various IIMS WhatsApp groups.
Alex has two degrees; one in digital media production and the other a master's in digital marketing. Alex is an avid reader of fantasy and historical fiction and also enjoys gaming and writing.
We wish Alex well in her new role.
11:15 – 12:30: David O’Neill, Advanced Energy Solutions: Basic understanding of Lithium based marine solutions, strengths and weaknesses.
12:30 – 13:15: Marcus Jones who sits as part of the IMarEST special interest group looking into lithium-ion batteries follows David to give his view of this technology.
13:15 – 14:00: Lunch.
14:00 – 14:45: Phil Duffy talks about how to value large yachts and small craft. 14:45 – 15:45: Karen Brain, Matrix Insurance (Insurance topic to be confirmed). 15:45 – 16:30: Graham Harrison, Chaucer Insurance, speaks from an underwriter’s perspective (to be confirmed).
