CHAPTER TWO • OFID OPERATIONS BY SECTOR
Transportation: The journey toward the global goals
Transport connects people to healthcare, social services and job opportunities
Strategic context
Sustainable transportation, addressed by the United Nations ‘global goals’ under SDG 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure, is vital to ensure that rural communities are not isolated. Safe and efficient transport connects people to healthcare, social services and job opportunities and facilitates regional, national and global trade.
OFID has long been committed to the transportation industry and by the end of December 2018, the organization had committed a cumulative total of $4,715.2m to development operations in the sector. This represents 21% of cumulative total commitments.
