ROADS
The road transport sector varies enormously between each of the four countries – depending on several key factors: (i) geographic size and shape of the country; (ii) size of the population; and (iii) absolute US dollar investment levels in road construction over recent years (provided by governments, donors, and the private sector). Road transport in Viet Nam has been improving rapidly in terms of both quantity and quality, as highlighted in the acceleration of expressway construction. most roads follow settlement patterns along the River Nile although development of expressways connecting Cairo with Alexandria and other cities has gathered pace. Despite a relatively large surface area, much of Mozambique’s road network is unpaved. Nonetheless, new roads and related infrastructure works remain a focus for the government, such as the new Armando Guebuza Bridge connecting Sofala and Zambezia provinces. Given Suriname’s small geographic size, the road sector remains modest. All roads lead to / from the capital city of Paramaribo.
