ow do we make development communications and public engagement more effective in today’s complex political environment? Development communicators don’t simply need to


get their message across, they also need to help rebuild public trust in international cooperation and mobilize citizens for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Are communicators overambitious and underequipped? Or are we at the beginnings of a development communication revolution? How do we connect better with more people? Just a few of the questions the workshop addressed. Communication professionals from across the


globe attended to help take the pulse of development communications. Among them were Getty photojournalist Giles Clarke, European Commission Digital Campaign Manager Louise Hagendijk, Chief Operating Officer of the World Data Lab Kristofer Hamel and the International Monetary Fund’s Division Chief of Digital Communication Olivier Puech, to name just four.
