HARF FROM YEMEN f
WINNING TEAM
The winning team, Harf from Yemen, focused on the importance of education. The team’s story followed Ahmed and Souad. In the fifth grade, Souad’s family stop her from going to school (36 percent of girls do not finish elementary level education in Yemen). Even though Ahmed continues, he suffers due to the war and his school is destroyed (like 31 percent of schools in Yemen today). Lack of education, they explained, can lead to children becoming child workers or soldiers. Harf called for changes to enable Yemen to move toward a brighter future.

ABOUT THE ARAB DEVELOPMENT PORTAL
The Arab Development Portal is a result of a partnership between the Arab Coordination Group and the United Nations Development Programme. The initiative aims to provide a platform for data and knowledge about development in the Arab world. Visualize2030 is an annual data camp that brings together youth from the Arab world to enhance technical and analytical capabilities and produce audio-visual content on important developmental issues faced in the region. This year’s event was held in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
