Use these tips to help you and your family use water wisely.


6 Avoid watering during the day. Always water during early morning hours or in the evening, when temperatures are cooler, to minimize evaporation.


6 Don’t water on windy days or within two days of rain.


Avondale Water Conservation encourages residents to plant native shrubs, trees, and groundcovers by offering a Turf to Xeriscape Rebate Program. Please check with


Avondale Water Conservation before starting any work for the pre-application and qualification forms.


6 Use a layer of organic mulch around plants to reduce evaporation, promote plant growth, and reduce weeds.


6 Check your sprinkler system frequently and adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street.

Up to 70% of residential water use occurs outdoors. Learning how to choose drought-tolerant and low-water-use plants, how to maintain them, and how much and how often to water can help reduce water use while creating a healthy, vibrant landscape. Advanced registration is required. Classes are 90 minutes long. All classes are IN-PERSON and held in partnership with the cities of Goodyear and Buckeye.
