RENOVATION PROJECTS :
Sam Garcia Library and Sernas Plaza Improvements Project Budget - $646,000
The Sam Garcia Library received interior and exterior upgrades to enhance functionality and visitor experience. Inside, renovations included fresh paint, upgraded lighting, security cameras, and new furniture, with a redesigned children’s area for better accessibility and play. The exterior saw the removal of parklet canopies, improved safety measures, a new concrete bench, and a vibrant mural in the children’s outdoor play area. The City celebrated the completed improvements with an open house on January 9, 2025.
Avondale Gateway Monument Project Budget - $153,000
A collaborative project between the City of Avondale and Agua Fria High School students resulted in a wagon-themed Gateway Monument at MC85 & Dysart. This hands-on experience taught students about City planning, design, and construction. The monument was officially dedicated on December 4, 2024, with school and City leaders recognizing the students' contributions.

Traffic Signal at El Mirage & Lower Buckeye Project Budget - $2 Million
A new traffic signal at El Mirage and Lower Buckeye will improve traffic flow and safety, accommodating future residential and commercial growth. The project includes single mast-arm signals, sidewalk additions, and coordination with upcoming road-widening plans. A traffic study confirmed the need for the signal, which will reduce delays and provide safer access to nearby developments. Estimated completion: June 2025.
Fire Station 171 Replacement Project Budget - $15.8 Million
To better serve the growing community, a new Fire Station 171 is under construction in Old Town Avondale. Replacing the aging 1985 facility, the modern station will feature four bays, 10 dorm rooms, and updated safety standards. The new location on 6th Street will improve emergency response times. The existing station will remain operational during construction, after which it will be demolished for a landscaped retention area. Estimated completion: February 2026.
