2. My friend Matt was on holiday in Mexico. While he was away, I fed all of his pets that live in his massive flat in Manchester. He owns seven cats and ten hamsters. There were too many animals to handle!
3. I've been doing so much preparation for the financial presentation on Wednesday. My manager has asked me to present to 70 investors. If it goes well, then they’ll give us backing to launch a brand-new product in November.
4. The Mousetrap is a play by Agatha Christie that opened in the West End of London in 1952 and has been running ever since. It boasts the longest initial run of any play in history and its record- breaking 25,000th performance happened in 2012. The play's longevity has ensured its popularity with tourists. There is even an educational charity linked to the production which helps young people experience theatre. At the end of each performance, the actors ask the audience not to tell anyone the ending so that it is not spoiled for those who haven’t been.
5. The advertising standards authority regulates adverts in the UK by investigating complaints and deciding whether adverts comply with its code of practice. In 2007, a television advert for L’Oréal was criticised by the authority because it exaggerated the effect of using mascara on natural eyelashes. In 2008, an advertisement for the iPhone said it could access “all of the internet”. In fact, the phone lacked support for plugins like Flash, so the advert was banned. It’s imperative to have such an association to ensure that companies aren’t lying to the public.
