Incendiary Devices
Incendiary Devices are used to start fires and vary from very simple devices such as a Molotov Cocktail to a more sophisticated device utilizing electronic initiating systems. An Incendiary Device comprises the following: a) Incendiary material b)
Igniters
c) Initiation system d) Container
The material used is normally a substance that burns very quickly and can vary from alcohol or petrol to a chlorate and sugar mixture.
An explosive or incendiary device is likely to be carefully hidden and might well be disguised as some everyday article, e.g. radio cassette used at Lockerbie. Explosive device components can easily be carried separately and re assembled once successfully through the search procedures.
Important to remember that even everyday objects must be considered suspicious unless they can clearly be identified as being safe by ownership or history.
