THE WORKPLACE
Frequent assessment of aviation workplace security can highlight inadequacies that may arise as conditions change over time. Crewmembers have several workplaces to keep in mind:
• office/hangar • ramp/airport • aircraft • FBO • R.O.N. facilities
THE AIRCRAFT The corporate jet has all the markings of a “target”: VISIBILITY VALUE VULNERABILITY V + V + V = TARGET
Checklists should be in place (and used) to ensure security procedures are followed.
• • • •
Pre-Flight
Unattended Home base Transient
Recommendations for unattended aircraft include: • • • • • •
Locks Door
Throttle Gear
Propeller Surveillance equipment
Some airports are now requiring TWO redundant systems to lock or disable the aircraft when not manned, e.g.- locks, chocks, engine disconnect, etc.
THE GOAL IS TO: #1 Prevent unauthorized entry #2 Detect unauthorized entry #3 Decrease the “TARGET” potential -- make it harder!
