Business Aviation & Personal Security 24 IN FLIGHT SURVEILLANCE

Flight Deck Door If a locked and secure flight deck door has been installed it must be locked before engine start and will remain locked, except for essential access, until the engines have been shut down after arrival.

During essential access (for the purposes of serving refreshments to flight crew, for example), the flight deck door should not remain open other than for the absolute minimum time required to gain access and to exit.

A viewing lens in the door or Cockpit Door Surveillance System (if fitted) allow observation of the passenger cabin and entry to the flight deck is monitored by the flight crew via the viewing lens.

For further details regarding the operation of the flight deck door would be covered by the Operator in aircraft specific training.

Pilots leaving the flight deck

Cabin crew should note that flight crew will only leave the flight deck for reasons of health (including physiological needs) and safety. If the aircraft is not fitted with a Cockpit Door Surveillance System, then a cabin crew member must remain on the flight deck at such times.
