The annual Trevor Dawson Charity Golf Day returned for 2025 and brought the business community together to raise £7,000 for Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone. Held at Clitheroe Golf Club, the event saw 21 teams take to the course.
East Lancashire Hospice has announced that longstanding volunteer and community champion, Suleman Khonat, has received the prestigious ‘Award for Excellence in Community Relations’ at the Muslim News Awards for Excellence. The awards ceremony, which was held at the Marriott Hotel in London, celebrated individuals who have made remarkable contributions to British society, particularly within the British Muslim community.
The University of Lancashire has collaborated with Blackpool Council to help it develop the skills of social work professionals. Blackpool Council employs around 2,500 staff and it has been a unitary authority since 1998. The council has committed to developing its social work employees by encouraging them to engage in degree apprenticeships. It has eight employees enrolled on the university’s degree apprenticeship in social work, and 17 have completed the course.

The SME IT Awards recognise exceptional achievements, groundbreaking innovations, and significant contributions from IT enterprises throughout the UK, spotlighting organisations leading the nation’s dynamic technology landscape.
East Lancashire Learning Group, formerly known as Nelson and Colne College Group, will deliver employer funded apprenticeships for Lancashire County Council after being awarded a major contract. The group, the only Ofsted Outstanding-rated Further Education college in Lancashire, has been awarded the apprenticeship delivery contract following a competitive tender process, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of high-quality training and skills development in the region. The awarded lots cover schools non-teaching, social care, construction, cultural services, plus business and administration.
