cyber security technical professional apprenticeship

Level 6 - cyber security technical professional

A Cyber Security Technical Professional operates in business or technology/ engineering functions across various sectors of the economy, including critical national infrastructure such as energy, transport, water and finance. They work in both public and private sectors and in organisations of all sizes.

They will normally operate with a considerable degree of autonomy and lead teams that research, analyse, model, assess and manage cyber security risks. They design, develop, justify, manage and operate secure solutions and detect and respond to incidents, all while adhering to applicable laws, regulations, standards and ethics.

How will apprentices learn? For the most part learning is delivered one day a week and is taught in hybrid teaching rooms which facilitate online access to the programme.

Apprentices will also be expected to attend block week workshops at Blackpool and The Fylde College’s University Centre. These are pre-set in line with the delivery of the course which need to be accommodated and organised with the employer.

How will apprentices be assessed? Apprentices will engage in industry scenarios that simulate real-world challenges, allowing them to apply theoretical concepts in practical settings. Coursework will be a significant component, involving assignments and projects that demonstrate their understanding and analytical abilities.

Additionally, they will participate in timed assessments designed to test their proficiency under pressure, reflecting the fast-paced nature of the industry. Practical assessments will evaluate their hands-on skills, ensuring they can perform tasks effectively.

Finally, professional discussions will provide an opportunity to articulate their insights and reasoning, showcasing their communication and critical thinking skills.

We know that a welcoming community and greater diversity leads to more innovation and better outcomes for the UK and the NCSC is committed to helping transform the cyber security sector into an exemplar of best practice.
