The digital hub at Accrington boasts a cutting-edge digital and cyber security lab, mimicking high security facilities and enabling learners to take part in responding to real time cyberattacks. A high-spec IT and gaming lab showcases elite hardware and interactive learning tools, and a newly developed Mac lab offers a modern workspace designed to emulate an office environment.

The new health and social care facilities include a hospital ward training room providing a highly realistic clinical environment, including four fully equipped hospital beds and supporting medical equipment.

Lisa says: “We’re incredibly excited about the equipment and environment this substantial investment has allowed us to provide for our students. We have made these investments because we know it is what the area needs.

“We’re committed to providing industry-standard facilities that reflect the demands of the modern workplace. Our focus is on innovation and excellence, equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in future industries.”

At Nelson and Colne College, investment is focusing on building on its academic strengths and growing its outstanding sixth form offer. The college is also developing new Industry Innovation Hubs in areas such as medical, digital engineering, and legal and professional services, designed to provide high-level pathways into technical careers and university education.

The two latest hubs follow the opening of a £3m engineering centre at Nelson – featuring industry standard facilities focused on CNC machining, manual milling, manual turning, fabrication and welding, with plans to add an aeronautical section.

Lancashire Adult Learning is also being reshaped to create stronger bridges for adults into both academic and technical routes. Through its extensive entry-level curriculum, LAL is enabling learners to progress onto professional pathways and university education, while continuing to deliver award-winning community

learning across Lancashire. LAL is currently ranked as the number one adult learning provider in the country, with the group as a whole placed second nationally.

ELLG is currently working in partnership with other colleges in the region to deliver the North West’s Technical Excellence College for construction. It will be one of ten colleges to boost skills in construction, crucial for delivering the Government’s plans to build 1.5 million homes.

In March ELLG was officially ranked as the number one FE College in England for A Level progress, underlining its consistent record of delivering outstanding results for learners. The group is also developing a partnership with Lancaster University as part of its work to further raise the profile and scope of its academic learning.

The Lancaster partnership provides academic students with direct access to and support from Lancaster University. It is part of a wider drive to build stronger routes into university education for young people and adults, tackling skills migration and boosting local progression into higher-level study and work.

Strengthening connections between education and local businesses is an important part of the overarching group strategy.

Its recent Ofsted report highlighted its strong contribution to meeting skills needs, working with a range of organisations, including NHS health trusts, Industry Construction Boards and Lancashire County Council.

Lisa stresses the importance of those connections and says: “We have been further developing our industry boards in key sectors as we work with businesses to develop our curriculums. We want to hear from our local companies what they need to succeed. That is really important to us as we move forward.”
