are also delivering what businesses in Lancashire needed in order to grow.
He says: “The flexibility of the units makes them attractive to occupiers. They are designed for a mixed use of manufacturing and storage. With each project we move the concept and design forward, on every site we improve the buildings we offer.”
Work to complete Frontier Park Burnley has just ended, with the last of the units going under offer in mid-February. At just under 600,000 sq ft, the project represents a £65m investment.
Its tenants include CRC Evans, a global leader in welding and coating services for energy and infrastructure sectors; Stolle Machinery, designers and manufacturers of machines for aluminium can-making; and Badgequo, a leading brand of cosmetics.
If planning permission is granted for Frontier Park Preston later this year, work to deliver the development, near to Junction 31a of the M6, will begin soon after.
Lancashire is not the only part of the country that is benefiting from the Issa’s investments. Frontier Park Banbury has been completed in Oxfordshire just off the M40.
Monte Blackburn is also behind a development off Junction 5 of the M65, near Blackburn. A planning application has been submitted for Central 65 – another 600,000 sq ft scheme on around 50 acres. Monte is hoping for a positive planning decision later this year.
Preston is unlikely to be the final frontier for the company. Alex says: “Over the last six or seven years our developments have delivered in excess of two million square feet of accommodation and we are continually looking at opportunities.
“We like to think we know the local market. We have to work hard to get these sites, they don’t just fall into our lap, and the environment is competitive.
“Zuber is very proud of Frontier Park; he is so enthusiastic about Lancashire and proud of the area.
“These are not just money-making schemes. They are an investment in Lancashire and in the community.”
The Innovation Hub team with Simon Lawrence, second right BRIGHTER FUTURE
The delivery of a £13.2m Innovation Hub on the Samlesbury Enterprise Zone has moved a step closer with the appointment of a design team.
The aim of the hub is to support businesses in advanced engineering, manufacturing, science, technology and cyber sectors, building on the county’s existing strengths.
The team behind the project, a key part of the Lancashire Growth Plan, believe it will act as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation and business growth within the enterprise zone.
The appointment of the team, which will work in partnership with Lancashire County Council, has been described as a “major milestone” in the delivery of the project.
It marks the progression of the scheme from the concept phase into detailed design and delivery.
The team includes MAKE NW, delivering project management and quantity surveying; AEW, architectural services; Stantec, mechanical, electrical and plumbing and civil and structural design; Anderton Gables, principal designer and health and safety consultancy; and WFST, fire engineering design.
Alongside the design work, the county council and MAKE NW are developing a framework to appoint a managing operator for hub.

Simon Lawrence, director of growth and property at County Hall, said: “Appointing the
design team is a major step forward for the Samlesbury Innovation Hub. It means we can now move into the next phase of turning the vision into a deliverable project.
“More importantly, it puts us on track to create a flagship facility that will help position Lancashire at the forefront of high-value innovation, skills and productivity growth, in line with the ambitions set out in the Lancashire Growth Plan.”
The project is expected to move into planning and operator procurement this year, with construction to follow once these stages are complete.
The Innovation Hub will be up to 30,000 sq ft in size and will offer a mix of high-quality office space, collaboration areas and event facilities.
It is being designed to bring businesses, industry, education institutions and specialist practitioners together in one place, supporting SMEs to access emerging industries, while providing the county’s cornerstone businesses with flexible space to support growth.
The building will also allow for future adaptability, including the potential for laboratory-enabled space to support future innovation-led uses and emerging sector needs.
The project builds on a previously announced funding package of £7.2m from the county council and £6m from the new Lancashire County Combined Authority.
