ONES TO WATCH SUB36 Profiles by Tim Aldred IN ASSOCIATION WITH: SUPPORTED BY:
THIS GENERATION’S GAME!
From woodcraft to the Internet of Things, Lancashire’s young people are making a real impact in the business world in a whole range of sectors across the county.
The rates of entrepreneurial activity among young people in the UK more than doubled between 2000 and 2019, according to research from the Prince’s Trust.
And that spirit of enterprise remains strong in Lancashire, as our latest Sub36 showcase also highlights.
The Sub36 programme, one of our longest- running programmes, supports members of the business community aged under 36 through networking events and editorial coverage.
On these pages we feature some of the county’s talented young people - including business owners, decision-makers and key employees.
What they have in common is they are making an impact within their own organisation, within their local community or within their sector.
With the support of the Lancashire Skills and Employment Hub and Big Presence, and the help of our invited panel, we selected the most inspiring nominations received from our readers to create our list.
To really impress the judges, who we brought to Cotton Court in Preston to make their
deliberations. We asked for specific examples of impact each individual had made. And we believe our list, drawn up in no particular order, represents the very best values of Sub36.
They are Lancashire’s inspirational young people. They are the difference makers.
The list is a celebration of that impact these young people are having in their businesses, workplaces and beyond. One is still a teenager, while others are in their early 20s.
To grow the
numbers so much during a pandemic, that really is impressive
The comments from our judging panel highlight the high standard of nominations:
“An impressive project, it will be great to come back in 10 years to see just how it has grown.”
“When you look at their age and what they have done already, this is a tremendous effort.”
“Such a young team when you look at the business and the idea behind it.”
“To grow the numbers so much during a pandemic, that really is impressive.”
Richard Slater, publisher of Lancashire Business View, says: “Some of the most exciting advancements within individual businesses and wider sectors are being driven forward by some of the business community’s youngest representatives and we are always delighted to share their stories.
“We meet a great many inspiring young people in our day-to-day work but we also know that there are many more that we are still yet to meet.
“That’s why we encouraged people to nominate themselves, and their colleagues, so that we can learn more about them and raise their profile across the county and beyond.
“The response we received was tremendous. Once again, we thank those who took the time to put the names forward. We believe that our readers will agree that this is both a fascinating and an inspiring list and representative of the qualities we have in the county.”
