BAROMETER UP


Catterall-based Collinson Construction has been selected to build a new £3m teaching facility at Runshaw College. The 1,000 sq m facility will be built off Langdale Road in Leyland and will feature a block of 12 classrooms over two storeys. The company recently completed a £3.8m, 3,184 sq m training facility at Trailfinders Sports Club in West Ealing, London.


Global engineering and technology firm


Expleo is planning to create 120 jobs at its UK headquarters in Bamber Bridge. The move is part of a wider drive to create 500 engineering jobs across the UK over the next 12 months.


Vegan snack manufacturer Nutreelife created jobs and tripled production capacity after


investing in new equipment. The Ormskirk company, founded in 2017, upped its output of protein bars, snacks and other plant-based snack products to meet growing demand.


ACCRINGTON-based Studio Retail Group has


been bought out of administration by Frasers Group. Studio had been seeking but had failed to secure £25m in funding which it believed would help offload its surplus stockholding. Frasers, led by retail entrepreneur Mike Ashley, completed the purchase saving more than 1,400 jobs. The deal included an undisclosed cash sum and a £26.8m payment to Studio’s lenders.


The Queen’s New Years Honours for 2022 included MBEs for Annette Weekes and Brian Newell. Annette is managing director of Nelson- based PDS CNC Engineering and Burnley-based Tooling Solutions and used her experience and connections to develop the Covid Manufacturing Cluster for Lancashire and South Cumbria to provide medical equipment for the NHS during the pandemic. Newell founded Euxton-based Shackerley Holdings Group in 1992 and has made a significant contribution to the worldwide ceramics industry.

EFS Global acquired Gees Haulage of Crawshaw Hall Nursing Home and Medical


Centre, Crawshawbooth, has been sold to Constantia Care Homes, part of the Constantia Healthcare Group, for an undisclosed sum. The business, established in 1987, is based within an 18th-century mansion standing in over five acres of gardens.


Chorley-based PAR Group acquired Birmingham-based Mountford Rubber and Plastics Ltd for an undisclosed sum in a deal that had been delayed by the pandemic. Beever and Struthers and Napthens advised.


Lancaster City Council’s planning committee


approved planning permission for the Eden Project North in Morecambe. The team behind

Blackburn-based engineering firm Assystem


is to create 450 jobs within its low carbon projects, one-third of which will be based in the North West. The recruitment drive is part of Assystem’s campaign to promote a transition to carbon-free electricity to customers in energy, rail transport and infrastructure sectors.
