PLANNING FOR A HEALTHY FUTURE

Independent private healthcare provider Greater Lancashire Hospital (GLH) has bought another hospital in its home city as it plans a large-scale expansion of its services.

The family-owned business has acquired First Trust Hospital in Preston – including all buildings and equipment – for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

The First Trust site has already received formal CQC Certificate of Registration under the GLH name meaning it can now provide inpatient services for the first time, while also greatly increasing the volume of outpatient work and diagnostics it undertakes.

GLH says it will use the new site to cut waiting times for NHS patients throughout the Lancashire area while increasing its private and healthcare insurance provisions.

HOLIDAY FIRM’S HIGHLAND AIMS

A Preston-based holiday and leisure company has secured a seven-figure funding package to support the continued expansion of its Scottish resort portfolio.

Harrison Holidays has used £7m of HSBC UK funding to acquire the Ardlui Hotel, Marina and Holiday Park, which sits on the northern shore of Loch Lomond.

plans for a large-scale expansion of the health services it can offer.

Gwam Rajiah, executive chairman of Greater Lancashire Hospital, said: “We’re committed to creating a truly world class hospital that helps forge the future of healthcare for residents and medical professionals in the North West. The CQC Certificate of Registration is the very first step on that road.

“Our new building has 22 beds including 14 en-suite, which means we can now provide patients with overnight stays for the first time.

“It also has two state-of-the-art general anaesthetic operating theatres, which will ensure that even more patients can receive world-class diagnosis and treatment under the same roof.”

The hospital intends to offer all its existing services from the new site as well as a raft of new ones, which will be announced at a later date.

The deal follows the retirement of the previous owners of the site. Set across 11 acres, the estate comprises a 12-bedroom hotel, a marina, and a caravan park licensed for 96 units.

Following the acquisition, Harrison is undertaking a refurbishment of the hotel and surrounding grounds. Plans include redesigning the food and beverage areas, both indoors and outdoors, to better serve travellers heading to the Highlands and those walking the West Highland Way.

The family-run company will create additional lodge and pod accommodation for holiday rentals and refurbish two existing houses to operate as luxury holiday lets, while also looking at opportunities to expand the marina to accommodate more boats.

The expansion is set to increase Harrison’s turnover by eight per cent and create 10 new jobs over the next 12 months. Director William Harrison said: “As a family- run business, we are always strategic with growth and expansion plans.

GLH says its ‘healthcare pathway’ is unique in that patients are seen by some of the UK’s top consultants and clinicians from their first appointment, aiding a quicker diagnosis and a shortening of their healthcare journey.

People using NHS England’s Patient Choice Framework will continue to receive their consultations at GLH’s original facility in Preston’s Millennium City Park until the new site becomes fully operational.

“This investment into such a unique holiday park marks an exciting step forward, creating new opportunities for our business and delivering benefits to both holidaymakers and community members alike.”

David Edwards, global relationship director at HSBC UK, added: “This acquisition is a fantastic example of a business identifying a significant investment opportunity that strengthens its own portfolio but also contributes to local tourism and economic growth in the region.

“As one of the UK’s largest family-owned holiday and leisure park businesses, Harrison Holidays has a long history of offering family- friendly holiday experiences.”

Established in 1974, the business owns and operates a range of holiday parks in some of the UK’s most sought after coastal and countryside locations, including Cumbria, Northumberland and Suffolk.
