The adoption of BIM is increasing across the construction sector. With the UK government’s recent investments in the sector, through ISCF funding, they have demonstrated a real focus on the development of digital construction.


Tata Steel is taking a leading role in addressing the challenges that manufacturers face in making their BIM information available. A recent report by the UK BIM Alliance entitled “A fresh way forward for product data” noted that manufacturers need to ensure that their product data is structured, accessible, maintained and trustworthy.


It is this approach to BIM information that has driven the development of our digital tools. We have developed the DNA Profiler www.tatasteeldnaprofiler.com to enable our customers to access the data they want, in the format they want, with or without an object, in the level of detail they want, in their preferred CAD platform.


The product database and scripting that sits behind this are now being used to develop exciting new tools and platforms for Tata Steel and its customers. These tools will help with design and specification of our products, facilitate ordering and even in-use performance monitoring and reuse. Watch this space!
