INDUSTRY FOREWORD Building a sustainable future


A very large part of the total energy consumption of developed countries is associated with buildings. As a consequence in the UK, and internationally, considerable effort is being invested in the development of high performance building envelopes. Modern steel solutions are characterised by high levels of thermal insulation and air-tightness, together with other refinements such as levels of internal reflectance, that significantly reduce lighting loads, and low carbon integrated energy generation technologies such as photovoltaic panels and transpired solar collectors.


At Oxford Brookes University, we support Tata Steel in playing a key role in the development of new products and solutions that are high performing, reliable and economic, and which also offer excellent and wide ranging architectural opportunities.
