Adaar Kuchchaveli TRINCOMALEE, SRI LANKA
There’s a particular quality to silence on Sri Lanka’s east coast — not the absence of sound, but the presence of something calmer. At Adaar Kuchchaveli, that silence is one of the first things guests notice, and often the last thing they find themselves reluctant to leave behind. Opened in July 2024 along a quiet stretch of Sri
Lanka’s east coast, Adaar Kuchchaveli is a boutique beachfront hotel with just 14 rooms. Clear skies and calm seas are the norm on this piece of shoreline, letting guests enjoy a long, sandy beach. The property is contemporary in style, with
spacious rooms opening onto a lush garden alive with birdsong. An infinity pool sits at the threshold between garden and sea, and in this space, guests tend to lose track of time. The beach beyond is shallow, typically calm and largely untouched. The restaurant at Adaar — Sancta Lucia — serves
Sri Lankan, Italian and international cuisine, with fresh seafood taking centre stage. Daily catches supplied by local fishermen feature prominently on the menu, while the poolside bar offers tropical juices, cocktails and refreshments throughout
the day. Adaar’s curated excursion programme connects guests to the coast’s natural and cultural heritage. Diving and snorkelling trips explore the coral reefs of Pigeon Island National Park, while boat excursions depart directly from the beach at the hotel. Guests can also visit the ancient Velgam Vehera Buddhist temple and Kanniya Hot Springs, or take day trips in Adaar’s environmentally friendly electric tuk-tuk to attractions including Koneswaram Temple, Fort Frederick, Trincomalee Harbour and the Commonwealth War Cemetery. Beyond the property, the team actively promotes
sustainable practices within the local community, including beach clean-ups. The coast isn’t simply a backdrop to the guest experience, but an environment the hotel is committed to protecting. The property is managed by the Paiva family
from Kandy, known for Paivas T-Rooms and Kandy Paivas Meet & Eat, established in the 1950s. Their hospitality heritage is reflected in the warm and attentive service that characterises the guest experience. It’s a place that feels quietly discovered rather than simply booked.
DON’T MISS Enjoy a candlelit dinner on the beach accompanied by the sound of the waves
