The Kin Hotel MUMBAI, INDIA
Set within the quiet, tree-lined streets of Dadar West — one of Mumbai’s oldest residential neighbourhoods — The Kin Hotel offers an intimate base from which to explore the city. Housed inside a building originally owned by their grandfather, siblings Imrun Sethi and Guneet Singh have transformed the property into a boutique hotel that reflects both the character of the neighbourhood and their own creative sensibilities. Rather than separating guests from the city, the hotel encourages immersion in it. The building retains many of its original
architectural features, including restored terrazzo flooring, now complemented by bespoke mid-century furniture, warm natural materials and a palette that’s inspired by Mumbai’s distinctive coastal light. Across 15 individually designed rooms, no two
spaces are alike. Vintage finds collected over years of travel sit alongside objects sourced closer to home. These range from antique rotary telephones discovered in Delhi markets to playful ceramic curiosities that give each room its own personality.
That philosophy extends beyond the guest
rooms. The lobby functions as a 24-hour concept store where furniture, lighting, ceramics and decor found throughout the hotel are available to buy, blurring the line between hospitality and design retail. It reflects the founders’ belief that memorable stays are built through thoughtful details rather than excess. Food is equally personal. Imrun Sethi trained
at Marco Pierre White’s Michelin-starred The Criterion in London before establishing Terttulia, a celebrated modern European restaurant with locations across Mumbai, Pune and Goa. That culinary background informs the hotel’s approach to dining, where carefully considered ingredients and hospitality take precedence over formality. The Kin’s location also places travellers
within easy reach of some of Mumbai’s defining landmarks, from the revered Siddhivinayak Temple to the sweeping Bandra-Worli Sea Link. For visitors seeking a slower, more local perspective on Mumbai, it offers an experience shaped as much by its surroundings as by the people who created it.
