PAID CONTENT FOR MOHÉLI LAKA LODGE, BEACH AND DIVING RESORT

Mohéli Laka Lodge, Beach and Diving Resort MOHÉLI , COMOROS

The smallest of the islands in the Comoros archipelago, Mohéli is recognised for its pristine reefs, forested hills, traditional villages and fragrant ylang-ylang, vanilla and clove plantations. It offers travellers a rare sense of wilderness, shaped by communities that live in close connection with the forest and the sea. The island is home to Mohéli National Park

and the Mwali Biosphere Reserve, recognised by Unesco for their exceptional marine and terrestrial biodiversity. Conservation efforts focus on protecting coral reefs, coastal habitats, rivers and remaining primary forests, while supporting sustainable development for local communities. Set within the marine park at Nioumachoua,

Mohéli Laka Lodge, Beach and Diving Resort occupies a beachside peninsula facing six uninhabited islets surrounded by coral reefs and marine life. The lodge offers full-board accommodation in a lush garden setting, with a large private beach and direct access to the ocean. Air-conditioned and ventilated rooms feature private terraces and bathrooms, with

ocean views and easy access to the shoreline. The Lagoon Lounge, located at the tip of the peninsula, provides panoramic views across the islets and is a memorable spot for watching the sunset. Mohéli is an exceptional destination for diving.

Still largely undiscovered by the wider diving community, its reefs are considered among the richest marine environments in the Mozambique Channel. Dive sites such as Mchaco Islet are recognised by specialists for their biodiversity. Divers may encounter coral gardens, dramatic drop-offs and hundreds of tropical reef species. Beyond diving, the lodge organises a wide

range of marine and forest excursions. Guests can observe the endemic Livingstone’s fruit bat, one of the largest bat species in the world; witness green turtles nesting on the island’s beaches; hike through subtropical forest and primary rainforest; discover hidden waterfalls; kayak or paddleboard through mangroves; and visit traditional villages. From August to late October, humpback whales return to Mohéli’s waters, while dolphins and manta rays can also be spotted during the season.

DON’T MISS Look out for humpback whales, dolphins and manta rays in Mohéli’s protected waters
