Villa Harmonie – Îlot Fortier PETITE RIVIÈRE NOIRE, MAURITIUS
There’s a particular kind of stillness that only exists on an islet within an island — and it’s this rare, double remoteness that gives Villa Harmonie its name. Nestled on a small private islet on the west coast of Mauritius, Villa Harmonie is a peaceful sanctuary. Facing the lagoon with uninterrupted views towards the Unesco-listed Le Morne Brabant, it feels wonderfully removed from modern life. Villa Harmonie is run by a Mauritian family
whose roots on the island stretch back seven generations. Built by a couple with backgrounds in interior design and travel, the villa is now run alongside their three children — a naturopath and two yoga teachers — who share a philosophy centred on wellbeing, simplicity and respect for both people and the environment. With just five bedrooms, the villa remains
intentionally intimate. Each room celebrates one of the cultures that shaped modern Mauritius — Creole, Indian, Chinese, French and British — reflecting the island’s rich cultural mosaic. Guests can enjoy cuisine prepared by Amanda, the villa’s cook, with vegetarian and gluten-free
choices available, or privatise the villa for up to 12 guests, with the option of arranging a private chef to prepare Mauritian and international dishes. Life naturally unfolds outdoors. After a relaxed
breakfast of fresh tropical fruits beneath the shade of the villa’s tamarind tree, guests paddle across the lagoon by kayak or jump aboard the villa’s boat — a traditional Mauritian pirogue — with Denis, the local gardener who’s been part of the Villa Harmonie family for more than 20 years. His intimate knowledge of the lagoon transforms each trip, from snorkelling in crystal-clear waters to visiting Crystal Rock and the white sandy beaches of Île aux Bénitiers, just 15 minutes away. For those wishing to explore further, many of
Mauritius’s finest natural attractions are nearby. Black River Gorges National Park, the island’s largest protected forest, is home to endemic wildlife, rivers, waterfalls and Mauritius’s highest peak. The surrounding area also offers scuba diving, the chance to swim with dolphins, standup paddleboarding, world-class kitesurfing, golf courses and some of the island’s best restaurants.
DON’T MISS Explore the sheltered lagoon by kayak, swim with dolphins and unwind in a hammock beneath Mauritius’s renowned sunsets
