New Year, New You Health, Fitness & Beauty Is your pad shedding plastic?

Choose peace of mind that comes with 100% microplastic-free and flushable care

As January arrives, so does the annual reset, with a renewed focus on health, sustainability and informed choices

A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that traditional period care carries a hidden cost of a daily dose of microplastics. Fluus is leading the way with its 100%

microplastic-free and certified flush- able period pad. Te brand’s mission is simple: to provide safer, simpler and sustainable period care, ensuring that the safest choice for your health is also the best choice for the planet.

THE HIDDEN HEALTH COST OF PERIOD PRODUCTS Given the high permeability of

the

vaginal mucosa, a sensitive tissue act- ing as a fast-track pathway for absorp- tion directly into the bloodstream, Fluus believes that the chemical com- position of period products is a critical health concern.

Microplastics, tiny fragments of

plastic found everywhere from our lungs to our blood, are being increas- ingly studied for their effects on the human body. Research has consist- ently linked microplastic exposure to several adverse outcomes, includ- ing oxidative stress, inflammation and DNA damage. Te presence of these pervasive pollutants is a clear signal of concern. Of particular interest are potential

impacts on hormone and reproductive health. Studies have indicated that mi- croplastic exposure could lead to met- abolic disruption and changes in gene expression in reproductive systems. Additionally, microplastics could act as carriers for hormone-disrupting chemi- cals, which are known to interfere with hormones crucial for fertility and gy- naecological health. Avoiding unneces- sary exposure requires absolute trans- parency from your period products.

WHERE DO THE MICROPLASTICS HIDE IN YOUR PAD? Some organic or plant-based pads on the market still contain significant amounts of hidden plastic. Microplas- tics have been traditionally structur- ally vital to these products’ design and are often introduced through four main culprits: 1. Plastic Super Absorbent Polymers (SAPs): Tese gels, often made from fos- sil fuels, are used in the core to lock in blood and fluid. 2. Plastic back sheet: Tis is the thin, water-resistant layer on the bottom of the pad. Even those using corn-derived PLA or biodegradable plastics often do not break down in home composting or landfill and contribute to microplas- tic shedding, as these biodegradable plastics require specific requirements in their environment (heat, moisture, bacterial composition) in order to bio- degrade. 3. Plastic construction adhesive: Te hot melt acrylic glue used to bind the

layers of the pad together is a direct source of microplastics that hinders natural decomposition, even if all the layers of the pad are made from biodegradable materials. 4. Plastic underwear adhesive: Te sticky strip used to secure the pad is also typically derived from non-biode- gradable synthetic materials. Te uncomfortable status quo has

been that for a period pad to function, it needed plastic. Even an organic cotton top-sheet does not solve the microplas- tic problem hiding in the core, glues and back sheet.

THE FLUUS STANDARD: ZERO RISK, ZERO COMPROMISE, ZERO MICROPLASTICS For decades, the period care indus- try hasn’t changed: plastic-filled pads, non-biodegradable adhesives, and land- fill waste lasting centuries. Fluus was created to end this cycle. Engineered with a multi-patented,

microplastic-free cold-glue system and cellulose-based SAPs, every part of a Fluus pad is 100% biodegradable within 30 days when flushed. For Dr Liv Ahn, co-founder of Fluus,

it all started with one question: ‘What if period care put your health and the planet first?’. After years working in the NHS, Dr Ahn grew frustrated by an industry stuck in the past. So she left medicine to design a pad that’s safe for your body and your bath- room. “We wanted to flip the script with the world’s first fully flushable pad that’s 100% microplastic-free and 100% biodegradable.” Over 60,000 customers trust Fluus

for a microplastic free, smarter, more sustainable cycle. Research shows nine out of 10 women agree that pads should be flushable, biodegradable and effective. Fluus isn’t just another pad. It’s

the new standard for informed personal care: zero risk, zero compromise, zero microplastics.
