After World War I, under the leadership of Benito Mussolini, Italy became a fascist dictatorship. Fascism spread to Germany in the form of the Nazi Party. Adolf Hitler had become the leader of the Nazi party by 1921 and he was elected German chancellor in 1933. Hitler used terror, anti-Semitism and propaganda to ensure that he remained in power. He enforced new economic policies to improve Germany’s employment levels.
