The Treaty negotiations
After the truce was agreed, negotiations began in London. Sinn Féin selected a delegation to represent Ireland in the negotiations. The Irish delegation included Arthur Griffi th, Michael Collins, Robert Barton, Éamonn Duggan and George Gavan Duffy. Erskine Childers also went to London as a secretary. De Valera did not go, as he wanted information to be brought back to him before any decisions were offi cially made. He also wanted to be in Ireland to deal with groups like the IRA if needed.
