n the heart of stunning Dartmouth, nestled within the beautiful historic setting of the
Old Market Square, The Counter is bringing a fresh sense of energy and passion to the traditional fishmonger. It opened in July 2026 when Mark Lobb (Wild Food Devon) hung up his wellies after having served the best local fish to Dartmouth for many years. At the heart of the business is a
friendly, knowledgeable team with a genuine love of fish and seafood. Their enthusiasm is evident the moment you walk through the door, from the carefully considered displays to the daily selection of beautifully fresh fish. The team take enormous pride in stocking the best possible produce, with a strong focus on keeping it local.
sourced through Brixham Fish Market, alongside a carefully chosen network of local suppliers who share the same commitment to quality, freshness and provenance. The philosophy is simple: source the very best products available and, wherever possible, keep them as local as possible. For The Counter, however, being a fishmonger is about more than simply selling exceptional fish. Since taking over the business, the team have already begun using the characterful listed building to create experiences that celebrate seafood in all its forms. In a remarkably short time, The
Counter has hosted a number of events, including an atmospheric oyster bar, giving guests the chance to enjoy some of the South West’s finest produce in a relaxed and memorable setting. Most recently came an evening
dedicated to one of the most exciting fish found in our local waters - tuna. The Counter’s Gill- to-Tail Tuna Omakase celebrated this magnificent fish from nose to tail, showcasing its versatility while highlighting the quality of tuna available right here in our waters. It was an evening designed not only to showcase exceptional food, but also to encourage a deeper appreci- ation of the fish, its provenance and the importance of making the most

of the whole catch. That sense of discovery is central
to The Counter. Whether you are a seasoned seafood lover or someone looking to try something new, the team are always happy to share their knowledge, offer inspiration and help customers choose the perfect fish for the table. With the bounty of the South West on its doorstep, a strong connection to Brixham Fish Market and a genuine passion for championing local produce, The Counter is much more than a fishmonger — it is a celebration of the sea, right in the heart of Dartmouth. And with more events already in
the works, including something big for the Food Festival, it seems the Counter’s story is only just beginning. 5 Old Market Square, Dartmouth, TQ6 9SE 07930 513137
