FAST-TRACK CONSTRUCTION Ben Cohen and Building Services Now

Ben Cohen co-founded Building Services Now, which has bases in Manchester and Stourbridge, almost three years ago, after being asked to set up a company to complete a two-year pipework replacement scheme in a live hospital. He identified the need for a specialist construction company that can work directly for clients undertaking ‘difficult and challenging’ projects. BSN has three main divisions – construction, mechanical and electrical, and passive fire protection. Ben Cohen said: “BSN prides itself on its work in healthcare, working alongside clinical staff and understanding their needs to provide excellent solutions and minimise disruption. Having spent years working in live wards – whether it be for refurbishment, replacing pipework, or passive fire protection – our experience of how a hospital operates was fundamental to the success of this project.”

resuscitation areas to negative testing bays, as well as permanent screen dividers to waiting areas and receptions. It is important to stress that our bespoke systems can also be adapted for use in a number of other sectors. As the UK starts to return to a level of normality, with the majority of businesses able to reopen, many sectors are having to quickly adapt the way they operate to ensure the safety of both staff and customers. BSN’s solutions can help offices, retailers, and businesses in the leisure sector, reduce the spread of the disease, and thus the burden on the NHS. Crucially, the bespoke systems can be adapted for care homes and schools.

A post-COVID world?

The speed of the installation enabled hospital staff to get on with their work with minimal disruption.

While the COVID-19 burden on the NHS is gradually easing, the requirement for modified clinical areas remains. Segregated ward areas not only provide greater privacy for individual patients, but also help with ongoing infection control. BSN’s solutions are developed to be robust, for long-term use, ensuring that NHS Trusts achieve long-term value. BSN’s experience of working closely with clinical staff on a number of projects means we can tailor a bespoke proposal for any requirements anywhere in UK. We can create high quality and robust solutions on short time scales with minimal disruption.
