HEALTHCARE ESTATES 2020 SHOWCASE
The market’s ‘most versatile operating light’
‘Light is one of the most important elements in an operating theatre, has a significant influence on the course of an operation, and is essential for every successful procedure’.
So says Howorth Air Technology, but adds that ‘every situation, every tissue, and every user, is different. What is needed is lighting so versatile that it is suitable for everyone who operates it’. The company said: “The marLED X operating theatre light minimises the time required to set up the lights, and has a very long service life. Other features include:
n The latest LED technology – warm/cold white LEDs, combined with ‘unique’ hi-tech lenses, provide ‘brilliant, homogenous light’.
n Active shadow management – a fully automatic system for ensuring that light is always available where it is needed.
n ‘Perfect and even illumination’ – 96 powerful LEDs ensure that the surgical site always appears in the best light, ‘literally’.
n X-beam path for maximum variability. The optical-only system can be used to adjust the light field precisely to match the surgeon’s personal preferences – without using mechanical parts.
Howorth added: “With its innovative beam path concept, the marLED X offers a previously unattainable light field size from 14-15 cm. The variable geometry can be selected to round or oval.”
‘Insight-driven’ clinical washing products
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Armitage Shanks says it has been supporting the NHS and the wider healthcare sector with ‘insight-driven’ product ranges that help control waterborne infection spread within clinical basins.
The company said: “This includes the delivery of innovative brassware and ceramic solutions, Markwik 21+ and
Contour 21+.” The Contour 21+ ceramic basins come with SmartGuard+, a smooth hydrophilic glaze with anti- microbial properties, said to reduce the opportunity for bacteria to multiply. Its Hydrofin design reduces splashing by over 90 per cent ‘compared with traditional basins’. The basin is designed to improve water flow and drainage to prevent standing water.
Markwik 21+ thermostatic mixers are designed to reduce the risk of bacterial infection, and to be easy to clean and maintain. They can be fully dismantled for disinfection, with internal components able to withstand 80˚C, and the detachable outlets 135˚C, for autoclaving. Markwik 21+ taps feature small bore antimicrobial pipes designed to increase the force of water and cause turbulence, which helps to remove biofilm build-up.
