This year, I want to eat more veggies. Any tips for adding vegetables to breakfast?


Add a handful of spinach or kale to your favorite smoothie. These greens taste great combined with fruit and give you an antioxidant boost.


Sauté onions, peppers, broccoli, or whatever veggie you prefer, then add eggs and scramble. Veggie-packed omelets are an easy option.


Fill a whole wheat wrap with sliced hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, avocado, and spinach for an on-the-go breakfast.


Eat what you want. Just because it’s morning doesn’t mean you can’t eat salad or another veggie-focused meal.


How can I improve my diet and still save money?


• Seek out store brands and check the shelf tag for the unit price, which is the price by ounce, pound, or other unit of measure and tells you whether it’s worth buying a larger package.


• Don’t underestimate frozen produce. It’s frozen at peak ripeness, so it’s just as good for you as fresh produce, plus it’s affordable and easy to use.


• Buy proteins in large value packs and freeze individual portions for later.


• Build meals around inexpensive eggs. Use them to make everything from omelets and quiche for breakfast or lunch to hard- boiled eggs for a snack.


• Consider canned or dried beans and legumes, which are a wallet-friendly protein source. Stick to no-salt- added or low-sodium options when buying canned.

High-fiber foods help you feel fuller longer and include whole grains like quinoa, farro, and whole wheat bread, as well as fruits and veggies, beans, nuts, and seeds.


Focus on veggies at every meal. Filling half your plate with produce is a great way to satisfy hunger without eating too much.


Beans, nuts, and seeds are also rich in protein, another hunger-buster. For the most benefit, pair fiber and protein- packed foods in snacks like apple slices with peanut butter, carrots with hummus, or plain yogurt with fresh fruit.


Stay hydrated. We often mistake thirst for hunger, so before you reach for a snack, drink a glass of water.
