Page 89 PATLITE Adds Ethernet to LED Signal Tower

Torrance, CA —PATLITE® has introduced its LA6 POE LED signal tower, a fully-customizable signal tower series with Ethernet (Modbus/TCP UDP) connectivity. The LA6-POE is able to read and write all necessary data through a network-connected Ethernet cable. It supports PoE (Power over Ethernet), so there is no need for input and output modules for PLCs or running wires.

The LA6 series contains multicolor LEDs that can display 21 colors, 11 buzzers, animated patterns (using an internal timer function), and nearly endless flash rate settings. No longer are users limited to the common three or five stack lights with preset light modules. The LA6 has clear modules equipped with multi-color LEDs, allowing users to customize the sig- nal tower specifically for each application. Easy-to-use PC software is available at no charge to program the LA6’s light and sound patterns. The LA6 can then be con- trolled by simple discrete I/O or Modbus/TCP UDP using a PLC to display all the programs from the PC. The LA6 was designed to solve the drawbacks of traditional stack lights. Individual stack light modules can be difficult to see across large plant floors. To fix this issue, the LA6 can be programmed to display one single, solid color throughout the entire unit when an error occurs,

Wacker Poised to Expand in Americas

Adrian, MI — Wacker Chemical Corporation, part of the global chemi- cal group Wacker Chemie AG, is plan- ning a number of concurrent expan- sion projects in the Americas to sup- port regional growth and demand for silicones and HDK® pyrogenic silica. The company’s current invest- ment strategy in infrastructure in capacity in the Americas will involve several coordinated projects. The company recently opened a silicones R&D center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Currently under construction is the company’s HDK plant in Charleston, Tennessee. The plant is scheduled to be opened in mid-2019. The plant will provide a regionally-sourced supply of pyrogenic silica to cus- tomers in the area, with an annual capacity of some 14,330 tons (13,000 metric tons).

Complementing these projects, Wacker sites that manufacture sili- cone elastomers, fluids and emul- sions, are planning to significantly expand production capacity through infrastructure development and investments in additional equip- ment. Engineering planning for a number of projects is already under- way. These plans include the addi- tion of capacities for elastomers, intermediate production processes and further investment in antifoam compounds and silicone emulsion production. making it highly visible even from the farthest ends of a factory.

Another issue with some stack lights is that they only show that an error has occurred, with a single blinking light, and give no additional information. The LA6 can be programmed to show any number of processes with different colors or alarm sounds, such as: indicating the severity of an error on a machine, showing the progress of a machine process, or visual- ly indicating the depletion of tank fluids in real time. It can even be used in a countdown mode, visually aid- ing the pace of an assembly line.
