NEWS COFELY TO ENERGISE
RAMPTON HOSPITAL Cofely has been awarded a Carbon Energy Fund framework contract by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to construct, operate and maintain a new Energy Centre at Rampton Hospital in Nottinghamshire. Under the contract, Cofely will guarantee specified carbon and energy savings, delivering projected financial savings of around £112,000 per annum for the Trust.
Due for completion by the end of 2014, the new Energy Centre will provide heating, hot water and electricity to the hospital. The existing coal-fired boilers will be replaced with a 1MW biomass boiler, a 1.2MW combined heat and
power (CHP) engine and three high efficiency dual-fuel boilers running predominantly on gas. A new building management system will also be installed.
The new plant will meet all of the hospital’s heating and hot water requirements and approximately 87% of the total electricity demand, reducing carbon emissions by around 8,000 tonnes per annum. As part of the works, the site will convert from
a high temperature (115°C) hot water system to a low temperature (90°C) hot water district heating system to improve efficiency and safety. The project will also include replacement of the hospital’s effluent treatment plant with a modern, automated system that will meet both current environmental standards and future expansion of the site.

2014 marks a new chapter for Facilities Show as it takes residence
in its new home in London. The show, now in its 15th year, said a fond farewell to Birmingham’s NEC in 2013. A key reason for the decision to move was access to the capital’s business opportunities, which includes international visitors.
