VENDING & WATER COOLERS

CATERING FOR VARIETY

Whatever your hydration needs, 3M believe they have the right water filter for your facilities. Katherine Barnicoat, Senior Marketing Executive for 3M’s Purification division, explains why.

The type of water filter required in mains-fed water dispensers and coolers can vary, especially across Europe where drinking water quality can be quite different. The key benefit of water filters is the reduction of chlorine, taste, odour and sediment that may be present in the water. Chlorine in particular can be one of the main reasons why some consumers find mains water unpalatable. For facilities such as hotels, bars and restaurants seeking to enhance their water offerings to patrons, the plumbed in option can be a cheaper and hassle-free alternative to bottled water coolers that require disposal and can be susceptible to bacterial growth. Use of modern carbon filter technology within mains-fed water coolers helps to reduce chlorine taste and odour as well as a range of other organic taints in the water which may be present. More advanced filters on the market can also offer other benefits such as cyst protection, bacteria reduction, heavy metal reduction (such as lead) and volatile organic carbon reduction (including pesticide and other organic molecules).

High quality water filters, such as the AP2-G Filter from 3M, make an even more convincing case, by reducing service and maintenance costs for cooler operators. This particular filter is highly compact with a Sanitary Quick Change fitting and small carbon block, and it can be separated into components and sent for recycling.

In hot drink vending machines, water can impact the taste and appearance of the beverage and can cause issues with limescale. This can lead to disruptive equipment downtime and increased maintenance costs, whilst threatening customer satisfaction and profit margins. By using a high performance filter that ensures effective removal of scale-forming minerals, operators can ensure that their machines are kept up and running, and the beverages flowing. Since 95% of hot beverages are made up of water, it stands to reason that the key ingredient for a great beverage is high quality water.

3M offers a wide range of scale control filters that cater for a variety of flow rates and lifetime requirements. They include a filtered bypass through a one micron carbon block to ensure all the water is filtered to a high standard whilst allowing some minerals to remain in the water for optimum beverage taste.

For hard water areas, the ScaleGard Pro H+ Scale Control System offers a high capacity filter, including a fixed bypass selected to remove the right amount of hardness. This prevents hard scale formation in the heating coils of coffee or vending machines, ensuring maximum uptime and efficient energy usage.

The system has a disposable cartridge that can offer lower investment and service costs than alternative systems. It offers higher capacities than the 3M

standard range, utilising the same encapsulated design. The higher capacity provides protection of the asset, thereby increasing the life span of operator equipment with reduced filter change-outs. Its Sanitary Quick Change head facilitates rapid change-out, when required, with no expertise or tools and without having to turn off the water supply. Furthermore, there is no concern regarding contamination or leaks as new ‘O’ rings are changed with the cartridge. The new filters can be mounted inside cabinets or off the floor and are easy to connect to existing pipework.

The ScaleGard Pro P1175 Anti-scale Filter is designed to give coffee and vending operators a competitive advantage by offering increased hardness reduction capacity, at a cost-effective price. The filter is floor-mounted and is available in four versions – fixed bypass models (P1175BN-E and P1175BH) and non- bypass (P1175E and P1175H). The non-bypass versions are designed for use in the steamer market, whilst the fixed bypass versions are designed for the delivery of consistent, quality drinks in coffee and vending machines.
