3M PUTS A SHINE ON

THECENTRE:MK 3M floor pads have put an added gloss on the experiences of shoppers at thecentre:mk by restoring the shine to the centre’s Grade 2 Listed Travertine Stone Floors. By specifying 3M, contract cleaner Europa has also made the floors quicker, easier and cheaper to maintain, to the delight of thecentre:mk’s management company, CBRE.

With over 27 million visitors each year, thecentre:mk is one of the UK’s busiest shopping centres. CBRE challenged Europa to restore the shine to the dull stone floors and create an ambience worthy of a top 10 retail destination. Previously, Europa had been employing a general scrubbing and buffing process to keep the floors clean.

3M Scotch-Brite Surface Preparation (SPP) floor pads were used to deep-clean the floor and remove stains without the need for any chemical strippers. Two grades of 3M Trizact HX Discs were then used to grind and polish the dull and scratched floor to a smooth sheen, without reducing slip resistance.

Finally, 3M Scotch-Brite High-Shine Purple Pads were used to buff and polish the floor to a brilliant shine.

RESIN FLOORING STANDS TEST

OF TIME Bespoke flooring at the UK’s largest inland fish market has reached its six-year milestone thanks to specialist resin systems supplier, Resin Surfaces Limited (RSL). Served by almost every port in the country, an average of 25,000 tonnes of fish and fish products are sold through merchants at Billingsgate Market in Canary Wharf each year.

RSL supplied a Resuthane TG69 in a Forest Green colour on the ground floor of the self-contained Market complex. Covering 13 acres, the ground floor of the building comprises a large trading hall with 98 stands and 30 shops, as well as a number of individual cold rooms and an 800 tonne freezer store maintained at -26°C.

RSL’s leading hygienic Resuthane TG69 system was chosen because it is a food-safe, seamless floor which combines outstanding wearing and anti-slip properties in both wet and dry conditions.

Martin Macleod, Superintendent at Billingsgate, who oversaw the project, said: “We needed a rapid solution that was not only fit for purpose but wouldn’t impact on the day to day operations at the Market and could stand the test of time. Six years later, I can confidently say RSL met the brief brilliantly.”
